How to Link Your NIN With Prepaid Meter
The Nigerian Electric Regulatory Commission (NERC) released a statement on August 22, 2023, advising consumers to upgrade their prepaid meters through a procedure known as the TID Rollover. As a result, NERC required DisCos (Electricity Distribution Companies) to assist consumers with this procedure and give them two Key Change Tokens (KCTs), which are necessary for updating meters, at no cost.
DisCos has been alerting consumers to follow the update procedure since the announcement. As previously mentioned, a few users began experiencing issues with charging around the beginning of November. In the meantime, Nigerian prepaid meters’ current software was scheduled to expire on November 24, 2024.
Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC), also known as Ikeja Electric, sent out a tweet to Lagos residents informing them that before the upgrading could begin, meters must be linked to National Identification Numbers (NINs). Unfortunately, it didn’t seem that many people were aware of this information, as users began to find it difficult to recharge, leading to long lines and crowds at IKEDC offices. Furthermore, the average wait time for customer service grew from two minutes to ten minutes.

Conclusion
You have successfully connected your NIN to your prepaid meter with Ikeja Electric. To load energy onto your prepaid meter, you need two sets of 20-digit tokens. Purchase any amount of energy to receive these tokens.
You will receive three different tokens to upload to your meter. Enter KTC1 first, followed by KTC2, and finally, enter your energy token.
