From 10 to 8, there are now only eight nominees for Album, Song, and Record of the Year as well as Best New Artist.
The Recording Academy increased the number of nominees for its “big four” categories — Album, Song, Record of the Year, and Best New Artist — from eight to 10 during the previous two years.
According to the New York Times, the organization will go back to the previous threshold in 2024 and tighten the requirements for record of the Year eligibility, requiring featured performers, producers, songwriters, and engineers to be acknowledged on at least 20% of a nominated record in order to be eligible for an award.

This modification comes after the standards were loosened in 2022, dropping the required level of participation from 33 to 0 percent, allowing any credited contributor to be named as a nominee.
Best Pop Dance Recording, Best Alternative Jazz Album, and Best African Music Performance are the three new categories that the Academy added earlier this year. Grammys CEO Harvey Mason Jr. teased the latter category at a press conference in Ghana in September.
Producer and Non-Classical Songwriter of the Year, two already-existing categories, have been transferred to the general field so that all Academy voting members can vote on the winners.
