Victor Osimhen, one of Nigeria’s star players, may not be available when the Super Eagles meet South Africa’s Bafana Bafana at the upcoming AFCON 2023.
On Monday, February 5, 2024, around 10 p.m., an Air Cote d’Ivoire flight from Abidjan to Bouaké was taken without the Napoli forward player. Osimhen suffers stomach trouble, according to reports from the Super Eagles’ official X account. If the team’s physicians determine he is well enough to play, Osimhen will join the team later.
The statement read thus:
“Members of the team traveled from Abidjan to Bouaké today via a 10pm Air Cote D’Ivoire flight. Osimhen did not however make the trip as a result of an abdominal discomfort. Team medics confirmed that he has been placed under close watch with a member of the medical team staying behind in Abidjan with him. If cleared by tomorrow morning, he will join the rest of the squad before 5pm.”
AFCON and FIFA Club World Cup set to clash in 2025
Osimhen has been an instrumental part of the Super Eagles progress at the competition. He has scored just one goal so far in the competition, but he has been able to distract opposition defenders, which has allowed the likes of Ademola Lookman to get into pockets of space.
Nigerians will hope Osimhen passes the fitness test before the semi-final clash against South Africa.
