Pep Guardiola Wins 2023 Best FIFA Mens Coach
After leading Manchester City to a record triple last season, Pep Guardiola has been named the 2023 Best FIFA Men’s Coach winner.
The former manager of Bayern Munich and Barcelona put together a fantastic team that included players like Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland, and the Cityzens won the FA Cup, Premier League, and Champions League.
Guardiola had fierce competition for the prize, as Luciano Spalletti of Napoli and Simone Inzaghi of Inter were also contenders. Of particular note, Guardiola cemented his record as the first coach in history to win two European trebles; he had previously accomplished this feat with Barcelona in 2009.
Lionel Messi wins 2023 The Best FIFA Mens Player award
The current manager of Barcelona, Xavi, and Ange Postecoglou, who won a domestic treble with Celtic before joining Tottenham Hotspur, were among the finalists. Guardiola finished in second place in 2019 and in third place in 2021 and 2022, but this is his first time winning the coveted award.
Lionel Scaloni was awarded the responsibility of leading Argentina to a World Cup victory in Qatar; yet, Guardiola’s victory returns the trophy to a club manager. He becomes the latest in a long line of accomplished coaches that include Thomas Tuchel, Claudio Ranieri, Didier Deschamps, Zinedine Zidane, and Jurgen Klopp.
As nominees for the Best FIFA Men’s Player award, Haaland, Messi, and Mbappe demonstrated how well Guardiola’s Manchester City team performed. In addition, Ederson was nominated for Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper, and De Bruyne, Gundogan, Rodri, and Bernardo Silva were shortlisted. Even though the current season has started more slowly than expected, City is still a strong contender for the Premier League and the Champions League championship.
